Ideas For Making The Best Of Traffic To Your Web Site

Monday, April 5th, 2010

A website will live or die by its visitors. If you do not get enough people coming to your website every week, then orders, commissions, newsletter subscriptions and so on will be down and your profitability will decline, possibly into a loss making venture. So what can you be doing to maximise your traffic levels? Well, you basically have to look at two key aspects. First, what you can do to drive new traffic to your site and second, what you can do to lure these visitors back and get them to visit more pages.

Most people will think of the first part of this when looking to maximise traffic – how to get more brand new visitors onto the site. But these are the expensive traffic – numerous work has to be done to get these onto your website. Once they are there, convincing them to browse more pages and come back in the future is cheap – maybe a small offer, but that is around it.

Finding New Visitors

So what should you be doing to attract people to come to visit your website in the first place? The obvious answer to this is paid advertising. The most popular of the paid marketing schemes is probably Google’s Adwords, where you bid on keywords and pay every time that someone clicks on your advert. Nevertheless, this is very expensive if you are not careful round your keywords and can be very disappointing. But compared to other paid schemes, such as banner adverts and popunders, the success rate is a lot higher.

My own liking is for article writing and there is an reason that if you cannot write sufficient articles yourself, it would in fact be cheaper to hire a ghost writer to make them than to buy pay per click adverts. My own data for article writing do back this up! If I had paid a PPC system for all of the traffic I have received through article writing, it would have cost me a lot more than paying someone to write the articles. Best of all, they have been free as I have written them all for myself.

Retaining Current Visitors

Retaining traffic is just as crucial as, if not more vital than, finding new visitors. If a little work convinces an present visitor to return, then that is as good as a new reader. But on their return trip they are coming knowing the web site already, making them more potential to buy from you. So what tricks do we have up our sleeves here?

Well, for a start, check out your page navigation. When the reader gets to the bottom of the content or product description, can they simply find another similar product to look at if they are not pleased with this one or can they find an additional page of content to read of a similar nature? Both are essential tricks to maximising the return of money spent gaining new traffic. Also, for blogs, look at showing your most popular posts or those posts that generate the most comments. Both are important in getting traffic to look at another page, a decision which could just be the catalyst to making them a fan of your site and return many times over.

Whatever methods you decide to use to encourage traffic over to your site, make sure that you are using a mixture of attracting visitors and then when they arrive getting them to stay on your web site.

Easy Ways To Increase Website Traffic

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Website traffic is critical for business growth. When traffic to a website increases that is – more people show interest in your site – there is an automatic increase in business. There are many ways to improve website traffic some of which can be done free of cost while some do cost money like website promotion services. Search Engine Optimization is much talked about and has a corresponding amount of importance in driving website traffic upwards. It can be done free of cost. There are many SEO forums and articles on the net from where you can get detailed ways to search engine optimize your website.

Next effective method is to use PPC or Pay Per Click which helps to achieve targeted traffic driven to your site. Most of the popular search engines have PPC deals going including Google and Yahoo. Some of the smaller search engines have great PPC offers too. There are exchange programs like Traffic Exchanges and Link Exchanges that are good ways to improve website visitor numbers. With Traffic Exchange you can get an immediate and free raise in visits into your site; it runs on the principle that someone views your site and you in turn view their site. Link Exchanges or reciprocal links as it is also known offers dual benefits. In this method, you provide a link from your site to some one else’s site and they do the same for you. It is important for you to choose a site that is relevant to yours and not anything arbitrary to ensure that this method provides effective results. Basically, you attract visitors to your site from another site plus you also have the opportunity to increase your search engine ranking which is directly proportional to the number of links pointing to your URL.

You can place “banners” in other websites advertising about your products and services; when people click on the banner they will be brought to your site. This is an easy way to get visits to your URL. For this method to work the banner has to grab attention and should have content that would tempt the online surfers to click on it. Next is for you to write articles on topics related to your business. For instance if you are in the furniture business you could write articles on latest trends in furniture or different materials used in furniture and so on. You can provide links in the middle of such articles linking to your site or subtly promote it at the end of an article. Next you should submit these articles to different ezines and forums that are complementary to your business. You could also choose email campaigning using safe lists. This involves sending emails in bulk to people found in the safe lists (who are people who have agreed to get such type of soliciting emails in the first place). When such people find your services interesting they will automatically click on your URL mentioned in the email. There are of course many more tried and tested methods to increase website traffic – you can choose whatever suits you best.
